Paper-I: Descriptive Statistics

SECTION-A

  I. Answer the following questions                   5× 10 = 50 M

 

1.       (a).Explain the method of constructing Histogram and Frequency Polygon

(OR)

           (b).Describe the different methods of central tendency of a frequency                   distribution, mentioning their merits and demerits.

2.       (a).What do you understand by skewness? How is it measured?

(OR)

         (b).Explain the main difference between mean deviation and standard                 deviation.                                                                    

3.      (a).Derive the Spearmen's correlation coefficient formula, when there are                    no ties.

(OR)

          (b) Explain how to fit a second degree parabola to the given n data points.

4.       (a)  Distinguish between correlation and regression

(OR)

          (b) Explain the properties of regression coefficients.

5.       (a) Derive the conditions of consistency of data for 3 attributes

(OR)

         (b) Derive the relationship between Yule's coefficient of association (Q)                        and  Yule's  coefficient of colligation (Y)


 SECTION-B

I            II. Answer the following five questions.       5×3=15 M

6. What are the properties of good average?

7. Karl Person coefficient of skewness of a distribution is 0.32, Standard                    deviation is     6.5 and mean is 29.6. Find the mode of the distribution.

8. The mean of 5 observations is 4.4 and variance is 8.24. If there of five                     observations     are 1, 2 and 6. Find the other two.

9. Derive the relationship between central moments in terms of raw moments.

10. Write a short note on partial and multiple correlations                                          

11. Write a note on Method of least squares.      

12. Regression equations 8X-10Y+66=0   and   4X-18Y=214,

     find the mean values of X and Y

13. Explain Tschprow's coefficient of contingency

I         III. Answer all the following questions.           5×2=10 M

14. Define primary and secondary data

15. Define Kurtosis.

16. Define scatter diagram

17. Explain what are regression lines        

18. State the conditions for independence of attributes
